Candlelit Desserts – Jennifer Cox

Will you please describe your creations?
I make candles, soap and wax melts that look and smell like food.

How, where and why did the inspiration come to you for these creations?
We were on a family vacation and bought an ice cream sundae candle. I kept looking at it and thinking about how they made it and things I would have done differently. Next thing you know, I'm buying 50 lbs of wax! I've always been a "go big or go home" person!

Who are your biggest influences?
My Grandparents hands down. They were always making things and including me in it. Both were extremely artistic and creative as well. They were so encouraging and supportive of me, even when my attempts paled in comparison to theirs.

Tell us about your favorite medium.
I have a love/hate relationship with gel wax. It's not the easiest to work with, but the results can be beautiful when it comes out right.

What motivates you to create?
Providing a better life for my family and controlling my own destiny.

Which trends inspire your current work?
Any trip to a restaurant or bakery can inspire a new project.

What do you hope to achieve with your work?
Creating items that bring people enjoyment. I worked in the corporate world for almost 20 years, this is so much better!

Do you support a cause or nonprofit, and why?
There are several. St Judes of course. Also the K.I.N.D. fund (Kids in Need of Desks). Locally I support Lifehouse Animal Refuge and Animal Rehabilitation. Children and animals are the most vulnerable in our world, with few resources to help themselves.

Lastly, if you could have any super power, what would it be and why?
Time travel. I'd love to go back and see history for myself and peek into the future (possibly check out the winning lotto numbers).
